Just What Is A Tea Infuser?

A tea infuser is as necessary accessory for many tea connoisseurs.  This little metal object can be shaped like a ball, a heart, an apple or anything else it is perforated so that it can hold the tea leaves inside and let the water flow through to infuse the tea into the water.

There are actually many types of infuser is somewhat big enough for a whole pot of tea but most work just for a single cup. They can be made from a variety of materials but most commonly they are silverplated or sterling silver.  Nowadays, many people use tea bags for their cup of tea but in the past tea infusers were an important part of the tea time ritual.

If you are brewing tea with fresh leaves, you'll really appreciate a nice infuser.  Just put the loose tea leaves into the infuser and put the infuser in your tea cup.  Then pour the boiling water into the cup and let it steep through the holes in the infuser.  Typically, you want to let tea steep for about five minutes before you drink it.

When choosing an infuser, you want to take note of the size of the holes.  In infuser that has holes that are too large may let particles of tea leaves escape and you'll have a little surprise in your tea!  Depending on the size of your leaves, you want to choose an infuser that keeps the leaves out of the water.
